Exercise AL NAJAH

The 5th edition of Exercise AL NAJAH, a joint military exercise between India  and Oman, is set to take place from 13th to 26th September 2024 in the Rabkoot Training Area, Salalah, Oman.

Overview:
Exercise AL NAJAH is a biennial joint military exercise that alternates between
India and Oman. The aim is to enhance the operational cooperation between
the armies of the two countries, especially in counter-terrorism operations.

Last Edition:
The last edition of the exercise took place in Mahajan, Rajasthan, India, in 2022.

Indian Army Contingent:
In the current edition, the Indian Army is sending a contingent of 60 personnel
from the Mechanised Infantry Regiment.

Objectives:

The primary objective of the exercise is to strengthen joint military capabilities and foster interoperability between the two armies in counter-terrorism operations, with a specific focus on Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter (related to peacekeeping and peace enforcement). The exercise will focus on conducting operations in desert environments.

Key Tactical Drills:

  • During the exercise, the forces will rehearse several tactical drills, including:
  • Joint Planning
  • Cordon and Search Operations
  • Fighting in Built-Up Areas
  • Mobile Vehicle Check Posts (MVCP)
  • Counter Drone Operations
  • Room Intervention

Additionally, combined field training exercises will simulate real-world counter-terrorism missions to enhance the forces’
preparedness for future operations.

Significance:

This joint military exercise fosters stronger bilateral military ties between India and Oman and provides both nations with
the opportunity to share expertise in conducting counter-terrorism and peace enforcement operations.
