Why in News:
The National e-Governance Division (NeGD) under the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY) has partnered with Sahakar Taxi Cooperative Limited to support the upcoming Bharat Taxi initiative.
About the Bharat Taxi Initiative
Nature of Initiative:
- A first-of-its-kind, cooperative-driven, citizen-first national ride-hailing platform.
- Aims to create an inclusive, digital, and self-reliant mobility ecosystem.
Promoting Organizations:
- Backed by major cooperative and financial institutions, including:
NCDC, IFFCO, AMUL, KRIBHCO, NAFED, NABARD, NDDB, and NCEL.
Objective:
- To reflect the spirit of the cooperative movement.
- Aligns with the Digital India vision — delivering citizen-centric, technology-enabled, and inclusive public services.
- Role of NeGD (National e-Governance Division)
Platform Integration & Technical Architecture:
- Integration with key national digital platforms such as DigiLocker, UMANG, and API Setu for seamless identity verification and
service delivery.
2. Security, Compliance & Infrastructure:
- Ensures adherence to data protection norms and cybersecurity standards of the Government of India.
- Provides guidance on robust technical infrastructure.
3. Programme Advisory:
- Offers governance and programme management support, leveraging NeGD’s experience in large-scale digital initiatives.
4. UI/UX & Accessibility:
- Advises on user interface design, multilingual accessibility, and inclusive features to ensure ease of use for all citizens.
Significance
- Empowers cooperative societies and drivers by providing a democratic, transparent, and Indian alternative to private ride-hailing apps.
- Promotes digital inclusion, data sovereignty, and economic self-reliance in line with Atmanirbhar Bharat.
